At Lumix CPAs and Advisors, we blend innovation, creativity, technologies, and accounting knowledge to provide the financial guidance and expertise clients need to grow their organizations. We partner with clients to shed light on the big picture so they can make the important decisions that further their mission.
Our Story
Lumix CPAs and Advisors was founded in 1992 as MT Pinero, P.C. primarily offering auditing services to nonprofit(s) clients. However, we soon realized that we preferred to take on a more proactive approach to help businesses implement efficient processes that would assist their growth and work with clients as advisors before, during and after the audit. For those reasons, we switched our focus accounting services, financial statement preparation, taxes, and CFO services within Montgomery County, MD.
As our team grew, they brought a wealth of experience in various industries and a shared passion to make an impact in the local and global community. The diversification of our team’s background, experience, and expertise allows us to offer a holistic approach to our client experience. Today, we are recognized by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) as being an innovative leader in our field.
Leadership Team
Maribel Ponist, CPA
CEO and Director of Client Accounting Services
Maribel is the founder of Lumix CPAs and Advisors. Prior to starting the company, she worked for the tax division of a Big 4 Accounting firm and as auditor of large government agencies. She graduated from the University of California at Berkeley and has been a CPA licensed in Maryland and Puerto Rico since 1990.
Maribel has experience as founder, treasurer and board member of several nonprofit(s) organizations in the DC metro area and has been recognized for her contributions to businesses by the Small Business Administration and the Montgomery County Government. As a peer reviewer for the Standards of Excellence for the Maryland Association of Nonprofit(s), Maribel sits on a panel of experts who evaluates an organization’s qualifications to be certified within the Standards of Excellence. An organization’s evaluation covers many areas of operations for which Maribel can use her expertise, including Human Resources, Financial and Legal, Governing Board and Conflict of Interest.
As a member of the Digital CPA Advisory Board of the AICPA, Maribel contributes to the AICPA’s mission of transforming the profession’s use of technology and leading in the trusted business advisor role. Maribel enjoys spending time with her family and friends, cooking, and outdoor activities.
Doug Whitescarver, CPA
Client CFO
Doug Whitescarver is the Client CFO at Lumix CPAs and Advisors with over 20 years of accounting and management experience. In this capacity, he is responsible for the management of all aspects of our Business Accounting and CFO Services. He also has extensive tax experience and was previously an audit manager.
Doug received his Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from Virginia Tech and has been a CPA since 1998. He currently serves as Treasurer on the Board of Directors for Montgomery Soccer Inc. and volunteers as a soccer coach. He enjoys time with his family, soccer with his sons, fishing, golf, and the outdoors.
